Not Tonight Darling, I'm Washing My Hair

imwashingmyhair.com - Musings on make-up, hair, and nails from two friends who share a bathroom.

Clare and I have been working on our new project for a while. Because I sort of see it as an excuse to buy more nail polish and get my hair did more often than usual you can inspect regular updates.

My new (old) Marc Jacobs shoes.

Lately... twin peaks, mint juleps, whiskey whiskey whiskey, rearranging my furniture, printing sticky labels for my extension cords so I know which plug is which, working on a new site which should launch soon - and would maybe have launched today if we weren't in a roast chicken dinner food coma.

hot summer... hot hot summer

I think we're all ready for summer to arrive... no?

I'm well aware that I say this every year but... I want to trade in my tights for ankle socks and be able to go out without wearing a coat (much like the way at the end of the summer I moan about missing my opaque tights and wooly scarves)

Here is (lazy blogging) what I am imagining I will be wearing on my summer holiday.

Diane Von Furstenberg bikini (netaporter), Alexander Wang sunglasses (opening ceremony), Jennifer Ouellette turban headband, and yknow... maybe an iPad.

They loved us because we dared to have a blast

I was given a copy of I'm With The Band a few years ago and it turned out to be one of my favourite books ever. It's a great coming of age story about teenage obsession and figuring out who you are in your twenties - obviously the tales of huffing trimar with Jim Morrison in the back of a car and being a nanny to Frank Zappa's kids are also pretty interesting. I LOVE IT. I lost it somewhere, but luckily received two more copies for christmas.

I was delighted to hear that it is being made into a HBO tv series starring Zooey Deschanel. HBO is the perfect place to bring this book alive - can't wait to see how it turns out.

nancy drew bookcase

20 Unusually Brilliant Bookcase and Bookshelf Designs: Creative, Modular and Unique Furniture

I HATE wasted space. All of the new build apartments I have lived in are guilty of this - doors that open the wrong way, radiators in stupid places... etc...

I suppose one of the advantages of designing your own house is that you get to decide where the doors, windows, plugs, and radiators go. However, this nancy drew door that is also a bookcase would be a massive space saver. Also it would make your room feel like a secret detective office. I'm also particularly enamoured with the staircase-bookcase

Matryoshkus à la Russe

Hand Painted Russian Dolls

I always keep an eye on the Art.Lebedev Studio Shop because I am obsessed with their Optimus keyboard. At $2000 it's just KIND OF out of my price range. I could buy FOUR iPads for that amount of money! Still though, their site is full of quirky gifts for tech lovers such as an LCD clock that tells the time in words and in multiple languages.

eyeballs

my halloween 'costume'

I've always had a fondness for eyeballs. Maybe it came from spending hours trying to shoot arrows into them in Zelda games. Who knows?

This Les Bijoux de Sophie bracelet is now on sale on The Moon and Mars.

the observer's book of cacti and other succulents

One of the best things about having weird obsessions with Disney, cacti, tell-all groupie paperbacks, airbrush mall t-shirts, and true blood, is that sometimes you get very thoughtful and amazing Christmas presents.

hangover DIY

Putting up picture frames is actually really easy. I'm not sure why it took me 25 years to realise this.

Still not really finished... but my room is starting to look like a grown up's room.

FIN and THE END prints from Keep Calm Gallery, San Francisco print from Lab Partners (etsy), Charley Harper Flash cards from Anthropologie (you can buy these in the Regent Street shop too).

two of my favourite things in the perfect size.

Was in America for Christmas with my parents. I LOVE going grocery shopping over there because everything comes in a giant size.

Obviously one can never have too much ketchup.

The half can is the ideal size of a can of coke for me. I wish they sold these in London.

See also: the can-bottle that Katie brought me back from Asia last year.

I'm back...

nice things

Haven't blogged in a while because I've been very wrapped up in Christmas shopping and don't want anybody to see what they're getting. Now that I am finished with it I can get back to thinking about stuff that I want... ha, as if I ever take a break from that!

Silver branch and skull earrings by Noemi Klein at no-one and Les Bijoux de Sophie owl necklaces from The Moon and Mars... yes please.

You donnnnn't need a ticket... to santa clause's partyyyyy

It's christmas party season! Clare and I went to get groceries in Dalston and got a little bit carried away. We basically had no choice but to throw an impromptu christmas soiree. I mostly took pictures of the food instead of the people though. OOPS.

Clare made mulled wine and baked cupcakes. I... er... cut cheese into squares and put them on toothpicks with hula hoops.

holgraphic jade nails

I almost had a heart attack when i received a surprise Chanel package at work on Friday. It was the JADE nail polish... kindly sent to me by my mum! THANKS MUM!

An awesome weekend ensued. My sister came down from Edinburgh and I took her to see BEYONCE at the O2 for her 21st birthday.

There were tears of joy. It was THE most amazing thing I've ever seen. There were sequins and flying and a video where beyonce's face turns into a cheetah and then it zooms in on her eye and she cries a single tear and then it zooms further in to her eye and her eye is SPACE.

Anyway - just before leaving for the O2 I decided to combine my 2 fave Chanel nail polishes (Holgraphic and Jade) to create the most powerful manicure ever...

There is only one way to make this manicure better... ADD BEYONCE TICKETS TO HAND.

Fangs are Fantastic

Why not celebrate the impending release of TWILIGHT THE SECOND with this Wildfox FANGS ARE FANTASTIC tee? It's not really jumping on the vampires are cool now bandwagon if you still own the VHS tapes of all the Buffy episodes you recorded off the TV in 1998.

Liberty, Luella, and LUNCH

Was sad to hear the news about Luella ceasing trading today... had heard whispers of this for weeks now and they were finally confirmed in the form of texts and twitters and omgs while I was at Liberty on my lunch break feeling seriously underwhelmed by the Luella Christmas Grotto but impressed by the windows (photos above).

This probably means there is going to be one crazy sale which both excites me and scares me a bit. I don't doubt that Luella will go on to do something else (at a lower price point?) and am excited to see how the brand re-invents itself after all of this.

Apparently the SS10 collection will not go into full production but happily it was another season of 'meh' for me and I haven't really felt insanely excited about Luella since the witch collection (erm... which I MAY have bought just a FEW items from...)

I was thinking of selling my Luells shoes because moving flat has basically completely bankrupted me... but I think I will be holding on to them now in case there are never any Luella shoes made again!

Toasted Cheese and Tomato Soup (MUST. BE. HEINZ) with scallions is one of my favourite winter meals. This Soup and Sandwich Tray is a must!

I just thought I would share with you the delightful iPhone background that Dan and I "collaborated" on before we had internet or TV in the flat.

Due Sardi

We live right by Jaguar Shoes, and in the past week they have opened up a pizza place next door - Due Sardi.

Ermmm... I just about screamed when I saw they had a pizza which had CHIPS on it - "patatina" ... had this delivered with an ice cold glass bottle of coke n settled in to a night of eating and watching BUFFY. In between declarations of love for the pizza I declared my love for Seth Green (OZ!!) ...

Clare, "I love Angel..." - Dan, "I LOVE Willow..." - Me, "I LOVE Oz... and pizza!"

halloweenie

Ermmm... It's been rather quiet on my blog lately. I have bid adieu to south east london and moved to shoreditch with the two other halloweened creatures pictured above.

Have been busy busy busy taking many trips back and forth with boxes and suitcases, taking apart furniture, putting furniture back together again, trying to get internet installed... etc... etc...

Am happy to say we are now well settled in and normal blogging/life will commence.
